frogger in regina

This is my blog from 2001 when I was living in Regina, Saskatchewan. When I landed, I had no job, little money and instant bills to pay. Much hilarity ensues...

Been a little absent-minded lately,
forgetting to fill out the blog.
The hot weather is abating;
less humid. But more rainshowers.
Almost every day, at some point
the sky clouds over and it rains.
Then it suddenly disappears!
Maybe this explains the oddness
of this city's inhabitants.

Yikes! I've been here for almost
two months! It seems like forever
but at the same time, I couldn't do
one single thing.
That's really depressing.
Has this city's pervasive joylessness
invaded my soul as well.
I've got to be rich. It's very hard
to do anything when you're dirt poor.
Oh! poor me!
Whatever.

I have a feeling that the last
half of my stay here will be a bit
better. Now if only my creditors
will stop hounding me!

Sat in the downtown Timothy's
today and had a coffee.
It's THE spot for watching
civil servants come in and chain
smoke for their break.

I've seen a lot less Hutterites lately
wonder where they went?

People, it's important to have a
sense of humour!

Today I ate beans for lunch,
leftover from the dinner before.
I didn't know that frogs can eat
beans.

I'm gonna have to go to the
Supercentre on the edge of town
to pick up some more no-frills
ramen.

Maybe I shouldn't be so negative
about this town. After all, it's just a
town. I'm starting to adjust and
really do my own thing.

Isolation is survival.

some updates:

on Friday night, we went out to a cool
Chinese restaurant called "Peking House".
Bill Cosby was there recently, judging by the
photograph framed on the wall.
Open till 1 am!!!!
Now that's cool.

Saturday:

we were wondering around the central mall
when a fierce thunderstorm struck.
It was unlike any I experienced before.
You couldn't see down the block. The wind was
fierce and ripping. The rain pelted like daggers.
Then golf ball sized hail started pouring down.
My god! It was like the coolest event to happen
in Regina!
Then they shut the mall down as there was a
tornado warning. They told everyone to stay
away from the windows and to go down to
the lower level. Cool. Being a city frog, I don't
get tornado warnings that often, so this was a
bizarre, freaky and scary treat.

That night, sheet lightening filled the sky.
Extreme flashes illuminated Regina every 2
seconds. I can't wait to go out to the actual
prairie to see storms in action!

As you can probably tell, I 'm pretty upbeat at the
moment. Mainly because of the storm that happened.
I love extreme rainy weather.

Recent Graffiti seen in Regina:

"Fuckin' Eh!"
"Who's pregeant by who?"
The best so far:
"Don't like guns? Then stop watching TV you
stupid, silly, yuppy, liberal scab."
