frogger in regina

This is my blog from 2001 when I was living in Regina, Saskatchewan. When I landed, I had no job, little money and instant bills to pay. Much hilarity ensues...

Friday, July 13

Last night we were reminiscing about the land
we left. Toronto, even though it was not the
greatest place in the world, it had its charms.
Oh! To have left that beautiful(?) city in order
to plow our lives into this hard, unforgiving
soil of the prairies.Oh! Oh! Oh!

We were missing:

_going to the beach (Western beaches)
_chillin' out at sunnyside
_hanging out in Chinatown
_eating Chinese food
_eating Chinese BBQ
_channel 47 Saturday nite!
_buying anything, anytime, around the corner
_people riding bikes on the road
_the sound of streetcars as they rumble by
lulling this frog to sleep.
_my record collection
_Parkdale
_a plethora of jobs
_cheap smokes
_normal people
_people of different colous, races, ethnicities,
accents, views, attitudes, sizes, smells.
_good music played in dining/coffee establishments
(at least better than here, though Gypsy Kings seems
to be the universal curse)
_real pretentious arty types
(as opposed to 4th rate arty types)
_real service
_people who know their surroundings
_a transit system
_choices
_less depressing environments
_vibrancy
_Roncesvalles
_cappucino at the Polish place
with dollops of whipped cream
_real panhandlers
_the CNE
_the CN Tower
_tall buildings
_Toronto-style humidity

I could go on.

...sniff.....

hello bun
hello sk
hello. it's raining.
hello bg
hello ds+belle s
hello jLo
hello all

it's getting dreary here
very very very dreary.
another weekend approaches....

Wednesday, July 11

Not much to report; just more rain.
This frog's unemployed, so he went down to the
Career centre and realized that the majority of the
people there were looking for jobs in other cities.
One guy knew some kung-fu.
Some civil servants outside having a smoke.
Their conversation was about vacations, liqour,
drinking,drinking,drinking....drinking.
So much rain.

Last night I went to where the other half lives.
The "suburbs" where the middle-class people
lived. I went to a starbucks in a chapters located
in a parking lot along with a bunch of other
box stores.
The scene was more middle class but people were
still dopey.
They didn't have tokion or giant robot at the Chapters.
They RAN out of Frappacino!!

This is quite a segrated town!
...and ugly!

Tuesday, July 10

The heatwave has finally abated.
Rain, rain today.
Here in Regina, there are way too
many civil servants.
They all dress the same:
Golf shirt with DIFFERENT coloured collar
tucked into slacks. Bad shoes.
That's for the guys. They're usually
middle-aged, paunchy, red from too much
sun. Freckles. Glasses.
Losing hair. Shitty attempt at a goatee
because they're losing hair. So it looks
like they forgot to wipe their mouths after eating.
REtarded.
When I say retarded. It has a special meaning here
in Regina. I am in no way trying to diss those of us
that are truly learning disabled or mentally unabled.
These guys here, that I'm talking about, the majority
of them or just truly dopey.dumb-ass...retarded.

Anyways, for the ladies; strict librarian styles
circa 1985. nuff said.

Apparently, there was a sound stage here in Regina
years ago. It was in an old Staples warehouse.
Staples is like Business Depot here. Well, whatever
film production company was shooting there pulled out
and so they demolished it.
That's the end of the Regina, basically, Saskatchewan
film industry.

Typical.

My children, it's been awhile. Let me tell you now!

It's a heatwave happening here in Regina. We
just got back from Saskatoon. A 7-day excursion
to "Sexy-toon" was just what we needed. I got soo
excited when we drove into town. I'm not being
sarcastic or facetious, I've been to Saskatoon many
times before and it is just the sweetest town.
Coming back to Regina was just soo depressing.
The people in S-town were sweet, normal, freshly
scrubbed, young, Sexy, yes sexy.

There, I watched tv for the first time in a long time.
Global kept running "hinterland's who's who".
Now isn't that cool?
They have things like "jazz festivals" and "cafes"
they also have people that are "normal".
Just basically less retards.

I'm gonna have to update this at the library now
since my Regina ISP done gone outta business.
(Isn't everyone?)

They just released an economic report about
Saskatchewan.
Guess what it said?
People are leaving.
Joblessness is going up.
Business is slow.
Retards are increasing.

Great, well-timed. This frog needs a job!
